Rachel Ashwell.
Her name was unknown to me until some months ago,
I didn't know that many of the things I already liked could be defined
Shabby Chic.
She opened a world to me made of antique chandeliers, slipcovers and flea markets.
I think Rachel Ashwell really revolutioned the idea of interior decoration.
Let's be frank,
How many of us can afford to change furniture or re-do a room each time we want to?
And what about furnishing and decorating a brand new house with very limited economic resources?
It's usually very expensive.
Rachel Ashwell introduced a new concept:
Less is more
You don't need to spend much money to create the home of your dreams.
You just have to look around you and see with new eyes what you already have.
I like this new conception.
In this consumer society, where people constantly aim to have something more,
Rachel Ashwell taught women to be glad with what they already possess,
She taught that with some fantasy, inspiration and good taste you can transform old into new.
She taught that old things have a story, a value, and they can keep their beauty, they deserve
That's how our granny chandelier can be painted into a brand new one, perfect for our modern house.
Or that's how antique linen found in some flea market or in some attic, can be used for a vintage pillow or for a perfect table set.
She taught that it's so chic to mix and match different cutlery or cups or plates.
And it really is.
And this way each house can be different and unique.
And this way each house can be different and unique.
I am very inspired by this woman.
By how she was able to create a new way of living the house by a simple necessity.
Shabby Chic is not only about beauty, it's most about comfort.
